Design Your Life: Youth Empowerment Series is a structured, coaching-based youth development program designed to support young people in building social-emotional skills, personal readiness, and a clear sense of direction as they navigate school, career, and life transitions.
Grounded in NYC's youth development pillars and social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies, this program centers youth voice, lived experience, and personal ownership. Through guided reflection, interactive activities, and facilitated conversations, participants strengthen self-awareness, emotional regulation, decision-making, and goal-setting skills—gaining the confidence and readiness needed to intentionally design their next steps during periods of change.

Component 1: Self-Awareness — Knowing Who I Am
This session centers on identity, strengths, values, and lived experience, creating space for young people to reflect on who they are, what has shaped them, and how they show up in relationships and group settings. Through guided reflection, discussion, and interactive activities, participants deepen self-awareness, recognize their unique strengths, and better understand how their experiences influence their choices, communication, and interactions with others. This foundation supports stronger collaboration, increased confidence, and clearer decision-making as youth begin to envision and intentionally choose the direction of their future.
Focus: Identity, strengths, values, and lived experience
Purpose: Before youth can set goals or plan next steps, they must first understand who they are, what matters to them, and how their experiences shape the way they think, act, and engage with the world around them.

Outcomes:
Youth develop increased self-awareness and self-confidence, gaining clarity around their identity, strengths, values, and lived experiences.
Youth strengthen emotional awareness and communication, demonstrating a better understanding of how their thoughts, emotions, and experiences influence their behavior, relationships, and interactions with others.
Youth build a foundation for intentional decision-making, using self-understanding to make more thoughtful choices, collaborate more effectively, and approach future goals with greater clarity and confidence.
Component 2: Career Readiness — Designing Where I`m Going
This session focuses on exposure, preparation, and goal-setting, supporting young people in translating self-awareness into practical direction. Participants explore a range of post-secondary pathways—including college, workforce, trades, and entrepreneurship—while identifying how their strengths, interests, and values align with real-world opportunities. Through guided activities and discussion, youth learn how to set realistic goals, break them into actionable steps, and begin preparing for future transitions with clarity and confidence. The session emphasizes intentional decision-making, accountability, and readiness, helping youth move from self-discovery to purposeful planning.
Focus: Exposure, preparation, and goal-setting
Purpose: Youth connect self-awareness to real-world pathways by understanding how their strengths and interests translate into tangible opportunities and by developing clear, achievable plans for what comes next.

Outcomes:
Youth identify and explore post-secondary and workforce pathways aligned with their interests, strengths, and values, including college, trades, entrepreneurship, and direct-to-work options.
Youth develop pre-career readiness skills, including interview preparation, professional communication, understanding workplace expectations, and presenting themselves with confidence in academic and work-related settings.
Youth demonstrate increased preparedness for career transitions, creating actionable plans and showing readiness to pursue internships, training programs, employment opportunities, or continued education.
Component 3: Leadership Development — Becoming Who I`m Meant to Be
This session emphasizes leadership identity, responsibility, and impact, guiding young people to explore what it truly means to lead—starting with themselves. Participants examine how their actions, choices, and communication influence others, and how leadership shows up in everyday moments at school, at home, and in their communities. Through reflection, dialogue, and experiential activities, youth build confidence in their voice, strengthen accountability, and develop collaboration and problem-solving skills. The session reinforces that leadership is not defined by a position or title, but by how individuals show up, take responsibility, and positively influence the people and spaces around them.
Focus: Leadership identity, responsibility, and impact
Purpose: Youth learn that leadership is expressed through behavior, choices, and service to others—empowering them to see themselves as leaders in their own lives and communities, regardless of title or role.

Youth develop a strong leadership identity,
